My neighbours have a business, Danube Glass, importing mouth blown glass from Poland. Naturally, in the long journey from Poland to Australia, some gets broken. Rather than throw it away, I very kindly offered to take it off their hands. Initially, I was not sure how to use it, as the edges are very sharp and almost lethal. I looked around for a kiln to "melt" it a bit and round the edges, but new ones are very expensive and beyond my price range. Finally, I came across a small second hand one which suffices for the moment.
This is the broken glass which I use to make the trees:
DISPLAY of FRIDGE MAGNETS
a rather zen-like tree picture - called "Precarious'
more small tree pictures
business card holders
A slightly LARGER project.
Dot Waterhouse and myself holding the "Vitreous Vista" picture before it was grouted:
Then, my friend, Ann-Katrin, from Hamburg in Germany made a small tree picture, in my verandah workshop, to take home with her. It was the first mosaicing she had ever done, and I think she did a great job ....
